Does the Bush administration care about families or the environment?Ok, I've come across these two articles that have really gotten under my skin. The first is that Fuel Rule Change for Big S.U.V.'s Seen as Unlikely. In the midst of record oil and gas prices we are going to exempt the Hummer from CAFE standards? What is the thinking behind this? My Ford Ranger/Focus/Mustand has to get better gas mileage, but if I drive a civilian tank it doesn't matter? Is the Bush environmental motto - to hell with the Earth?
Second, the Bush administration objects to .xxx domains at the request of the Family Research Council. This is utterly rediculous! The FRC says, "Pornographers will be given even more opportunities to flood our homes, libraries and society with pornography through the .XXX domain." Is the FRC too busy rallying around luke-warm Judge Roberts' nomination to notice that the internet as it is currently structured allows an almost infinite amount of domain names? This argument is completely without merit!
As I've said before, creating an .XXX domain name is a smart idea. Pornography on the net ain't going away. Creating a red-light district that is easy to patrol and block at the user and ISP level is very family friendly. We still need legislation to require all porn sites to move to .XXX domains, but that law isn't possible until the .XXX domain exists. Another reason I can't be a social-conservative. Internet porn exists and sticking one's head in the sand doesn't make it go away. The better option is to regulate it and mitigate it as best we can.
